Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Pro Repair

Whilst I have a Blackmagic cinema 6k pro in for repair I had the opportunity to confirm the pfGlass Camera Control is fully compliant..

Now I do hope that BMD will provide me with the schematic and any parts I may need to complete this repair.. If not, I guess I will have to continue the never ending task of research not to mention the extortionate cost of a development board and licence simply to tread the same (highly constrained) path that the developers trod! And who knows, maybe i will compile a 'How To' guide to recoup some of my costs?

It is quite surprising that BMD and a certain German audio interface manufacturer use 'set piece' as-per-catalogue designs (with minor changes) in their releases, especially as the FPGA code is pretty well written for you but there again, Kudos to the guys as the little wiggle room has been well utilised..

And you know once FPGA gets in your blood, there's no escape!

Now, let's check the power stages and power up procedure timing..

Update: BMD reached out offering help with this repair. I sent them a symptoms list, waited for a reply and got this:

So the only solution to the unavailable BMD parts shortage I can come up with is BMD provide me with a Pocket 6k Pro camera and EVF a demo model? and I will salvage the required parts to complete my client's repair. I will then promptly return the Camera and EVF so that more parts become available! Problem solved...

Should I start a thread called carbon fibre versus plastic? cheap toy construction? including shell tear-down with plastic self tapper fixings?

I was really pleased when I discovered that a copy of Resolve was included in the price of the camera, but now I’m beginning to wonder if the camera should have come free with the software?

Just noticed this wear where the monitor flexy cable meets the not rounded unfinished edge of the steel chassis, and note the kink / scratch straight down the cable. Ye Gods, Am I really seeing this?

So along with the EVF flexy I also need to replace this one.

Unfortunately I am now required to assess this in a more official capacity here in the UK as this could be a Health and Safety issue.

The worst demo ever made!

Fully screened mic preamps. What a great hardware decision!

No flippy floppy flex cables here although, the back electret flexies do have a canny screen arrangement. And I even spotted an old familiar Burr Brown (now TI) in the line level section so no moaning about the audio on this camera please!
